Dear One,
It’s Amy Ahlers here with a vulnerable email about my book launch today. Today, April 7th, is the official release date for my new book, Reform Your Inner Mean Girl: 7 Steps to Stop Bullying Yourself and Start Loving Yourself, which I co-authored with Christine Arylo. Hooray!
My heart is full of delightful anticipation, love, butterflies and, most of all, a deep desire to be of service to women and girls around the world who are self-bullying. In my work as a coach over the past 15 years I’ve witnessed the epidemic of women, in particular, being incredibly hard on themselves, putting pressure on themselves, holding their own happiness hostage. And as a mother of two little girls, my passion and fire for this message getting out in the world is unstoppable. Here I am with my girls this morning after my run feeling the book love with my author copies!

What you may not know about launching a book is that for me, and I think for many authors, it is an incredibly vulnerable experience. There is nothing else I’ve done that has bigger measuring sticks…and those measuring sticks are incredibly public; from best seller lists to reader reviews to professional reviews of the book. It can make me feel raw and vulnerable, like I’m a little girl again hoping that people will show up for my birthday party, and fearing that no one will.
My Inner Mean Girl has fertile ground to beat me up and bully me, which of course is exactly what I write about in the book! I teach what I most need to learn.
The truth is it’s not about your Inner Mean Girl never showing up, it’s not about being strong and confident 100% of the time. Instead it is about knowing what to do when your Inner Mean Girl shows up and, most importantly, not letting your Inner Mean Girl make your decisions.
So, here’s a sampling of what my Inner Mean Girl has been bullying me with:
“Nobody’s going to buy this book and nobody is going to show up at your launch parties…you’re such a loser!”
“It’s all about the best seller list, if you don’t hit the best seller list then you completely failed.”
“Nobody’s going to actually read the book even if they buy it, it’s just going to sit up on their shelf, collecting dust and the work won’t really have the impact that you want.”
“You failed, you failed, you failed – you’re failing, you’re failing, you’re failing.”
Ouch! My inner mean girl, Negative Nelly, can be really brutal.
But when I tap into my Inner Wisdom, plugging into the loving, compassionate truth inside me, here’s what I know:
“The lists and all the measuring sticks have nothing to do with this book. The heart and soul of this book is about helping women that are hard on themselves and being of service to the world this way.”
“This is part of your life’s calling Amy and all is well. If you’ve just touched one woman’s life and helped her through this book, then you are a success!”
“Stay attuned to your heart, leading with your soul and releasing any attachments and being absolutely grateful.”
“Your tribe is gathering. All is well.”
Doesn’t that feel better!? Thank goodness!
So, now I turn to you my dear one, how have you been bullying yourself? Is there a place in your life that you’ve been beating yourself up, putting pressure on yourself to do, be and have it all? Is there a way that you are using measuring sticks as punishment? If so, then this book is for you!
Those of you who already bought the book (or books!), I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am deeply honored that you invested in the book and, more importantly, invested in yourself. The book will share with you our step by step process for transforming your inner critic and empowering your inner wisdom. It’s some of the best work I’ve ever done in my life.
If you have yet to do so, I would be honored to have you pick up a copy of the book today. You can go to www.innermeangirlbook.com and order it there. When you do, we have some juicy, delicious bonus gifts for you!
More than anything, you’re officially invited to become part of the movement for us to stop beating ourselves up and start loving ourselves instead. We can be so compassionate with other people in our lives, but when it comes to how we treat ourselves, we can be pretty brutal and that is what the message of this book is all about.
Thank you so much for letting me share the book and celebrate the launch of it today and for reading this email.
May you feel the truth of your Inner Wisdom today and every day.
May you feel the truth of your Inner Wisdom today and every day.
With love,
P.S. If you happen to live in northern or southern California, Christine and I are also throwing two wonderful book launch parties and jumpstart workshops and we’d love to see you there.
This weekend, on April 11th, we will be in the Sf Bay area raising money for Girls, Inc. and jumpstarting the inner mean girl process for so many. You can go here to buy your ticket, which includes a copy of the book.
Or if you’re in the Los Angeles area, we have a workshop coming up on April 25th, where we will jumpstart your inner mean girl transformation and fill you up with so much love and remind you that you are not alone.
I really hope to see you at one of the events and thank you for helping me and my mission to stop women from being so hard on themselves and gift them with self love and self compassion tools. **Smooch!**
