This week, we moved @beeahlers into her dorm at CU Denver, where she’ll be studying singing and songwriting. I’m beyond proud of her—and so excited for this next chapter.

And… the rainbow of emotions is real.

I already miss her more than words can say. Knowing the chapter of mothering her while she lives at home as a kid is over makes me weep. Literally.

This child taught me—well—everything.

She’s the one who made me a mom.

The soul who brought me to my knees with worry (Is she getting enough milk? Is she getting enough sleep? Is this the right school? Is she being kind? Is she standing up for herself? Is she studying? Is she ready to drive? Is she okay? Is she okay? Is she okay?)

The one who showed me the depths of unconditional love.

Raising a sensitive soul in a world gone mad is no small feat. These kids—and we—are exposed to so much devastation and heartbreak, all the time. The relentless suffering on the planet makes living and raising humans unbelievably difficult, even when we are privileged enough to have all that we do.

And yet, we do it. What choice do we have?

We hope we’ve given them the tools to find joy, love, grace, fun, and delight—while they navigate the pain, sorrow, heartbreak, and devastation of being human.

Side by side. The paradox of life.

So yes, I’m excited for her. The way she’s turned her pain into purpose blows me away.

And I’m also grieving.

I’ll miss daily life with a human I adore. She and Evie are my favorites, and I love living with them.

What an honor it has been to raise her—and grow up alongside her.

So fly, my Beloved Bee.

This nest will always be here for you, a soft landing place when you’re weary, ready to celebrate, need a hug, or just want to rest.
