And then I MISSED MY FLIGHT!

I’m back from the amazing, powerful, and profound Barefoot Perfect: Mallorca Retreat. Oh my goodness did Sam Bennett and I have a glorious time taking a circle of interesting, brilliant women to Spain to vision the next chapter of their lives.

We laughed.

We cried.

It was better than Cats (am I showing my age here with this reference?!)

I mean look at this view from my balcony! Ahhhhhhh…

 

 

That said, it was not without challenges, especially when I missed my connecting flight from Munich. OMG.

It was a PhD level course in self-compassion. Here’s a quick video I made for you after my panic in the Germany airport talking about how we treat ourselves when we eff up.

Embrace Self-Compassion After a Mistake:
Stop Your Inner Mean Girl Attack!

We’ve all been there—made a mistake, big or small, and suddenly, our Inner Mean Girl jumps in, tearing us down with harsh criticism. She tells us we’re not good enough, smart enough, or that we’ll never get it right. But here’s the truth: making mistakes is part of being human, and you deserve compassion, not cruelty.

Think about how you’d treat a dear friend or a child in your life who messed up. You’d be kind, understanding, and supportive, right? It’s time to turn that same love inward. You’re not a robot. You’re a human being, beautifully imperfect, and that’s okay.

Why You Need Self-Compassion

  1. We All Make Mistakes: Perfection is a myth. You’re learning, growing, and evolving. You’re not supposed to get it right every single time.
  2. Self-Criticism Stalls Growth: When your Inner Mean Girl takes over, you get stuck. But when you bring compassion into the mix, you create space for reflection and real growth. Get all the lessons you can from your mistakes. Squeeze that lemon!!
  3. Forgiving Yourself Is Freedom: Let go of harsh judgment. Forgiving yourself isn’t about letting yourself off the hook—it’s about owning your humanity and moving forward with grace.
  4. Compassion Builds Resilience: When you treat yourself with kindness after a stumble, you become stronger. You’ll bounce back faster and take more risks, knowing you’ve got your own back.

How to Turn Down the Volume on Your Inner Mean Girl

  • Acknowledge your feelings without judgment. Name what’s coming up for you and remind yourself it’s okay to feel this way.
  • Challenge that Inner Mean Girl. Would you talk to a friend like that? If not, change the conversation.
  • Take action from a place of love, not shame. What can you learn? What small steps can you take to prevent this mistake next time?

Remember, you are more than your mistakes. When your Inner Mean Girl starts shouting, answer back with love and compassion.

You are worthy, just as you are.
