Top 10 Ways to Ensure New Years’ Resolution Success

Did you know that fewer than 10% of people who set New Years’ Resolutions actually achieve them? How can you ensure YOUR success? Try using the Top 10 Tips below.

1. Write Them Down. It’s a fact: writing down your goals gives you a higher chance of success.

2. Commit. Move beyond the land of “good ideas” to the land of true “commitment”. Make the decision that you will show up for your goals. Perhaps you can do a ritual or ceremony to symbolize your commitment.

3. Go Public. Let your biggest fans in on your new commitments and goals for the year.

4. Get Accountability. Even better than just letting others in on your “secret” dreams and goals-get some accountability. Meet for lunch once a month with a group that will ask you, “So, how’s it going with your goal?” Hire a Coach. Talk to your best friend or partner. Get some support!

5. Make a Plan. Ensure success with a step-by-step plan. Wake-Up Call Coaching loves to work backwards by starting with the end vision of where you want to be and working backwards to where you are today. You’ll find an easy action plan to make your goals a reality.

6. Do a Goal Check-In. Before you decide on what you’ll take on for the year, make certain you can answer, “YES!” to the following questions: “Am I the primary reason for setting this goal (vs. your mom, boyfriend, wife, boss, society)? Do I feel alive and energized by this goal? Is this goal in line with my life purpose or mission?”

7. Get Real! If you’re contemplating putting a goal down that you always put down and never achieve, take a second look. How will this goal end DIFFERENTLY this year? Is this goal something you need to let go of? What purpose is it serving you each year? Is this goal masking as a form of self-punishment? What is the good enough reason to truly commit?

8. Focus With Reminders. Once you’ve written down your goals, created a plan and made sure they are worthy to pursue, figure out ways to remind yourself. Some Wake-Up Call Coaching clients post their goals in on their bathroom mirror or in their car. Others put reminders in their blackberries, iPhones or cell phones. Figure out what works for you.

9. Believe and Visualize. Do you know the story about the group of basketball players who spent one hour visualizing making baskets, while another group actually practiced? The visualizing players had better seasons! So visualize yourself on New Year’s Eve with all your goals achieved. What would that look like? How would it feel? Visualize once a day and see the difference it can make in your life.

10. Use anchors. Tie your goal to a habit you already have in place. Perhaps you decide to do your exercise right after brushing your teeth, or practice meditation after checking email. Anchoring your new behavior and goals to an existing habit is a great tool for success.

May 2012 be the year that your goals and dreams manifest with ease and joy!

I’d love to hear from you! Please leave your feedback, intuitive hits, questions and more in the comments below.

  4. Shari Thompson says:

Happy New Year, Amy! I am feeling intuitively that simply opening up a space for myself is all I need right now. When we learned how to receive, I learned that an open space is necessary to be in the condition of receiving. I also wanted to tell you how many positive comments I am getting from BFLs from my staff since I gave everyone a copy for Christmas. They are amazed how well they can identify with the lies and can see the truths behind them. Everyone loves it!
    Shari

    • Amy Ahlers says:

  8. Sarah Kurhajetz says:

Hi Amy – Congratulations! I look forward to seeing you at the Goddess Collective later this month.

I’m thinking there’s a book tour or a series of speaking events in your future – a national book tour/speaking tour of sorts. Or I wonder if writing a children’s book might be something you’ve considered.

If you have any intuitive hits about me, I’d love to hear them as well.

Peace & Blessings to you in 2012! Love, Sarah

    • Amy Ahlers says:

      Dearest Sarah,

Thank you SO MUCH for the intuitive hits. I LOVE IT!!

For you, I see something juicy along the lines of really deepening your Great Work…your highest calling. You have so many skills…and the words that are coming to mind is “just because you CAN, doesn’t mean you SHOULD.”

      Love,
      Amy

  9. Tracy Dacko says:

    Hi Amy –

Love #10 (Using Anchors) on our list. What a great idea!

Just came across your site and I really like your message and your enthusiasm. And of course the Inner Mean Girl! We have plans to introduce some characters of our own later this year – maybe they can have a playdate with the Inner Mean Girls!

    All the best to you,
    Tracy

  10. Deb (Mamma K) says:

HI Dear Amy, I was perusing too late at night, and got to HEAR your beautiful new years message, so good to hear your voice. I was laying in bed and believing that many golden sisters are RIGHT NOW in Headlesburg starting the great works program…and I could FEEL the vibration and energy of love here in S. CAl! Maybe it will attach to Shiloh’s painting that is up there, and will soon be living in my home (Opening to Love)…how apropos is that? So I saw your video and I got an intuitive hit…your year is about playing with Dozer and Annabella…and holding the space for your clients…a year of breathing fresh air, and playing. Of course, I hope some of your fresh air and play bring you to S. Cal! Julie and I ,and hopefully Janet D, are going to Christine’s event here Feb 4th…would LOVE to see you too!. Sending you wishes for so much joy in 2012! My goals for 2012 are pretty simple – to stay present in the moment, and to listen to my IW daily! I am hearing her more and more and following her lead. I feel my life has been pure motion for 10 years , in extreme, so my IW says to stay in the pause. In that pause, I am hearing a calling, and listening to it,…sometimes I am called to connect with my kids, my friends, my co-workers (job is better 🙂 ) and to myself, sometimes called to be with my dog, other times called to paint 🙂 , and then I still have a burning call to write…making progress on my book idea – on physicians’ emotions and vulnerability…cannot stop my thoughts on this topic, but honoring that they can well up from within, vs be pushed along by a program to step by step get there. I am honoring some unknown internal creative flow, as if bubbling up like lava from inside. Of course, I would love your Intuitive hits! sending so much LOVE!.Deb
