Why do we so often resist the thing, the medicine, we know will make a difference?
I see it all the time with the women leaders I coach. They resist things like:
- a new belief system that will make them truly own what a badass they are
- a daily meditation practice that will calm their nervous systems
- body movement that will help them feel strong and fabulous
- the coaching/therapy/retreat their Inner Wisdom knows will make the difference
- the literal medicine that will heal their bodies…
The list goes on and on.
What is THE THING you’re resisting that your Inner Wisdom knows will make all the difference?
Got it? Good.
Now let’s work with that resistance of yours.
- The first step is to simply notice, without judgement, that you have resistance. I will often say to myself, “Wow! I see how that would be life-changing and I feel so resistant to doing it.”
- Next, imagine that your resistance is a person standing in front of you.
- Ask Resistance what its message is.
- Ask Resistance what it is trying to save or protect you from.
- Why not invite Resistance to write you a letter?
- How about making a doodle or some art about your Resistance and see what its message is? (Hat tip to my beloved besties, Sam Bennett and Shiloh Sophia, for their amazing work and inspiration on this topic.)
- Ask Resistance what it needs to feel safe so it can let go. How can Resistance be held and loved so it will simmer down and get out of the driver’s seat in your life?
- Thank Resistance for trying to protect you and let it know you’ve got this.
- Make an agreement with Resistance so you can move forward and do your THING.
- Now, go do the thing you know will make all the difference.
